I want to get my Driving Licence. How do I go about it?
Great, first, you need to be 16 or over. Then, you need to get your Learner’s Permit (L) for which you need to get through your Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) at your local NSW Services Centre. Find details here. Once you get your L, you can start getting lessons from a licensed NSW driving instructor, or from a Supervising driver. A driving supervisor is anyone who holds a current full Australian driver licence, such as a family member or friend.
Is my Driving Instructor accredited?
Good question, all Driving Instructors should have got the accreditation and become a Licensed Driving Instructor. Such an Instructor is issued with a Licence number which must be clearly displayed by the Instructor. You have the right see this Licence number and Driving Instructor’s Permit before commencing your lessons with your Driving Instructor.
Should I go for Auto or Manual Licence?
This depends on your ‘taste’ or requirement. Most of the Learners go for Auto, and few go for Manual. Manual involves a Clutch in changing gears, which can add additional complication/stress to handle when you go for your first Licence. Therefore, my recommendation is to go for the Auto first and then get it converted to Manual at a later stage. At this stage, PARAMOUNT driving offers lessons for ‘Auto’ Licence only.
When should I take lessons from a professional Driving Instructor?
You can commence taking lessons from a professional Driving Instructor even from day one. Some Learner Drivers practice few or more hours of driving with a Supervising Driver, and then come to a professional Driving Instructor to polish up what they learnt up to that point. Some others take the first few lessons from a qualified Driving Instructor, and then master those skills learnt up to that point with the Supervising Driver. I strongly recommend the latter for the reasons explained in “Getting Started” section of this site.
How many lessons/hours should I take from a professional Driving Instructor?
This depends on the amount of training/practice that you have already done with your Supervising Driver. During your first lesson
with PARAMOUNT Driving Academy, your skill level will be assessed and a detailed feedback will be provided highlighting the areas to improve, and the number of hours required to do so. If you haven’t had any driving experience before, I would recommend 10 hour package with us (please click on “Lesson Pricing” tab for details). 10 hours with us will be equivalent to 30 on your Logbook.
What should I bring to my driving lesson?
Your Learner’s Permit (L), Log Book, dressed with suitable clothing and footwear (no tongs, but joggers or similar would be fine)
